How To Make The Best Hamburger Buns

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Have you wanted forever to know how to make the best hamburger buns? Well, you can make these hamburger buns faster than if you had to get into your car and run to the supermarket to purchase them.

I promise, these are so easy to make and you will save so much money. Here’s the deal, you can shape these into best hamburger buns or hotdog shaped buns. Once you make them you will never buy store bought ones again!

How To Make The Best Hamburger Buns

My friend, Kathleen makes the most beautiful hamburger buns. We use the same recipes. My daughter Heidi makes the most beautiful loaves of bread. We use the same recipe. I’ve been making bread for at least 50 years and my daughter’s loaves look and taste better than mine. I must say, bread is so easy to make and just to have my hands in the dough makes me smile, even if my daughter’s loaves look prettier than mine.

When I make bread I take the best-looking loaves to friends and family. Do you do that? I have to laugh because it doesn’t matter when I make hamburger buns I go over and eat them at Kathleen’s and I swear hers are the most perfectly round hamburger buns in the world. The whole time I’m taking them off the cookie sheet I say to her “these are beautiful”!

We both just laugh and eat hamburgers together! Life is good! I always use a dough cutter/scraper when I “cut” my bread dough. OXO Good Grips Multi-purpose stainless steel scraper & chopper

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to (425°F) = (218°C) degrees.

    1. Now, you can make these in a large bowl, but I use my Bosch bread mixer or my Zojirushi bread maker. As you know, I dump everything in the mixer (yep, I'm a dumper). I wait until the bread dough pulls away from the mixer (using the Bosch).

    2. I add just a little flour until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl (only if needed).

    3. Now sprinkle some bread flour on the counter and knead the bread dough for about 2-3 minutes and divide the dough into 12 pieces.

    4. Grease a cookie sheet or hamburger bun pan and set it aside. Now you roll the pieces into balls and flatten them with your hands.

    5. Place each flattened ball onto a greased or parchment-papered cookie sheet or in the hamburger bun pan.

    6. Cover the pan(s) with greased plastic wrap and let rise for about 30 minutes. Bake at 425 degrees for about 12 minutes, or until golden brown.

Cuisine: American
Servings: 12 people
Ingredients
  • 2-3/4 cups flour I use bread flour
  • 2/3 cup grated fresh parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons butter-softened
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 2-1/2 Tablespoons SAF instant yeast
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Add all of the ingredients in the order shown above into your Bosch Mixer or Kitchen Aid Mixer with the dough hook. This is by far the easiest recipe to make hamburger or hot dog buns (depending on how you shape them). I add more flour until mixture pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Cover and let rise with greased plastic wrap for about one hour. Remove plastic and evenly divide the dough into 6 balls. Roll each ball and tuck the edges under and place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten each ball to about 3-1/2 to 4 inches wide. Cover the rolls with plastic wrap and let rise until double. Remove plastic wrap and bake @ 350 degrees for about 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. I literally dump everything in my Bosch bread mixer, but you can make this recipe in a large bowl and knead it by hand. I start with half of the flour and slowly add the remaining flour until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. I let my Bosch run for 6 minutes on high. Sprinkle some flour on the counter and place the dough in the middle of the floured counter. I knead the dough a couple of minutes by hand and then divide the dough into 12 equal parts. Make 12 balls and place them on a greased cookie sheet. Use your hand to smash them down like a hamburger bun. Cover the buns with greased plastic wrap and let them rise about 1-1/2 hours or until double in size. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown.
