We are bagpipers in a Service Band. We only play for things related to police, fire, ems, military and veterans. We see the President now and then.
I will tell you that bagpipers would slash their wrists and then drink the booze to antiseptic themselves from the inside out if that was the criteria to get the stuff.
They would not waste it putting it on their skin. Our Band is made up of current and retired police and fire. So, there’s that! We already know the worst of the worst situations. It was every day all day.

I worry less about an all out war than I do about supply disruptions due to smaller guerrilla style attacks, cyber warfare and AI. I remember 9/11 and how everything just kinda stood still momentarily and Covid where disruptions became the norm. Currently no one has the logistics to back an all out war against the USA, outside of nukes, though China has made large strides.

Hi, everyone: I just wanted to mention that we love the French Lentils, which cook so much faster than regular ones. You can add them to a soup you’re making and they cook up VERY fast! ALSO: If you’re like me and your love split pea soup, do not despair if your dried split peas are hard as rocks and cooked up into a gritty soup last time. I’ve found the answer to that problem! Soak your peas for 48 hours and then put them into your InstantPot! This will make you the smoothest split pea soup you’ve ever eaten and will taste fantastic. Yes, I realize 48 hrs. or at least 2 overnights until there are a few bubbles in the soaking water seems ridiculous, but I consider it a light version of fermenting. It works so well and tastes so fantastic, my family could not believe it! So much for throwing out split peas that the grocery stores left on the shelves too long! That would probably work just fine with other dried beans that are getting old, as well.
As far as stocking up goes, we just came back from Greenstar Co-op in Ithaca, New York (on Saturday night), where we “raided the “owner” bulk case sale aisle). We got that wonderful organic plus gluten free oatmeal I always rave about from Golden Prairie (25 lbs.), plus 2 1/2 # of my husband’s org. walnuts and a 11 lb. case of Extra Fancy Dates, all at case lot prices minus 10% off for their owner sale! We often buy organic popcorn from that aisle as well as black beans per 25#, too. Some co-ops, like Greenstar, are worth joining if you can get “owner” deals right off of the shelves. Anymore, since the Amish farmer who grew those fabulous black beans died, the beans that Greenstar carried we are substituting with the organic black beans from Azure Standard, and find them equally of great quality!
Don’t forget to stock up on books for foraging and books on how to make natural medicines, and or pre-made tinctures and salves, etc. Try growing yourself some medicinal herbs, too. These skills could save your life someday!! These are the reason we buy bottles of Vodka from time to time. We do not “drink”, but we do make tinctures!!!

2 things I would add to the list: herbs and books on how to use them. If there is a disruption of the supply chain, it isn’t just food that will be hard to get. Medicine uses the same supply chain!! And tallow! Great for making skincare items; candles; cooking.
