How To Improve The Soil In Raised Garden Beds

Have you wondered how to improve your soil in your raised garden beds? I drove out to LaVerkin, Utah to a small family-owned garden shop called Ballard Nursery to get the scoop on soil, raised beds and so much more. How To Garden In Raised Gardening Beds Today

I decided to try a different gardening approach a few years ago. Here in Southern Utah, I have had trouble growing a garden. I have tried HUGE pots filled to the brim with Miracle Grow Potting soil designed for pots.  I have tried the Extra Moisture type potting soil as well. They did not work for me either. I didn’t get more than two or three tomatoes in those pots. I even had special tubes watering them through the sprinkling system. The pots did not work for me here in the heat of the summer where we sometimes get temperatures up 110 degrees, too HOT for regular gardening!

Plant Tomatoes In Your Raised Garden Beds

Today it’s all about how to plant tomatoes in your raised garden beds! Here is another project I decided to do while getting ready to plant my tomatoes in my raised garden boxes. My yard is extremely small and this is the only successful way I can produce vegetables where I live. The raised garden boxes (eighteen inches deep) you put together yourself and fill with Miracle Grow Potting Soil. The “clay” soil in my backyard is really hard and for 6 years I was unable to grow anything. I tried large pots, planting in the ground….nope it did not work for me. I would not give up….I found these Suncast grow boxes on Amazon. Last year I produced bushels of various veggies in my four foot by foot little gardens!!! Woohoo! This is after six unsuccessful years…….in Southern Utah. Oh my gosh, I love to plant tomatoes!

Garden-Prepare Garden Beds Now For Next Year-Be Ready To Plant

Garden-prepare garden beds now for next year! We all want to know how to prepare our garden so next year we can produce a great deal of fruit and vegetables for ourselves. It’s hard to believe it’s that time of year when we need to clean out the garden, the flower beds, prune the trees, and fertilize. I will miss my fresh tomatoes, lettuce, basil, and cucumbers. I didn’t get a lot of squash this year, it usually goes gangbusters. Not this year though. I have a really small yard but it still takes the time to clean out the garden and cut back shrubs that are overgrown. I have a few flower pots with perennials that I enjoy in the spring and summer. There is something amazing when you see those flower buds just about to bloom. Gotta love it! Do you love watching for the vegetable seeds to start peeking out of the soil? Life is good!
