I wish every family in the world could have at least two thermal cookers. All you need to do is bring the contents of the inside pan to a full rolling boil for four minutes. Next, you put the lid on the pan and place it inside the thermal cooker and lock the lid in place, then off you go for the day’s activities. Your meal cooks after the initial four minutes of boiling.  This little thermal cooker is perfect for families on the go.

Thermal Cookers Are For Every Busy Family:

1. Sear The Meat:

The first thing I did today with this beautiful slab of red meat for my husband (we never buy roasts) was to sear it in a little oil. I am using my butane stove because I am still living off the grid so to speak for 4-6 weeks. I am waiting for someone to run a gas line in my attic to the kitchen for a new gas range/stove so I can do some heavy duty canning this fall. The temperatures here are too high right now for our plumber to climb in the attic and plumb it.  After the gas line is run I will have the gas stove I’ve wanted for some time now. I decided this is a perfect month because it is the National Preparedness Month. So I put a little oil, probably a little too much, but none the less I am searing this beauty on both sides to brown it.

3. Add The Vegetables:

I probably should have drained the fat after searing the meat, but I didn’t. The next thing you do is add as many vegetables as you would like on top of the meat.

4. Cover With Water:

Now you add water within one inch of the top of the pan. I did not use the inner smaller pan this time. You can actually cook two different items, one in the top pan and one in the bottom pan.

5. Boil Four Full Minutes:

I turned up the heat on my butane stove and brought the contents in the pan to a full rolling boil as shown below. It must boil a full four minutes before the next step.

6. Cover And Place In Thermal Cooker

After it has boiled you quickly cover the pot with the lid and place the hot pot (use hot pads) into the thermal cooker. You close the lid until it clicks and let it cook for 5-6 hours for dinner. The outer thermal cooker does not get hot and is easy to transport in your car to take to the park or a family reunion. The finished product is shown on the plate below. It was juicy and tender and the veggies were not overcooked. I must say, I tried cooking a rump roast a couple years ago in this cooker and it was tough as nails. I would only recommend a more tender piece of red meat. In my opinion, it was way too tough. Of course, any other meats would be great, or just make soups as well.

What I really like about this gem is the fact that you can use it for cold stuff as well. Put the larger pan in the refrigerator overnight with a cold salad you need to take to a party, game or reunion the next day. Put the lid on and the next morning quickly put the container in the thermal cooker (lid locked in place) and it will stay cold for 5-6 hours. WooHoo!

Thermal Cookers For Emergencies:

These thermal cookers are great for any emergency that may come your way. You will need a butane stove with extra cans of butane fuel ready to use. All you need to do is bring your food to a full rolling boil for four full minutes. Place the pan with the lid on the thermal cooker and snap the lid in place. You now have a slow cooker using zero fuel to finish the cooking cycle. It will cook for 4-6 hours.

I am going to share a YouTube with you today by Food Storage Moms. Kendra made the best pork roast. I tasted the leftovers the next day. It was super moist and delicious.

I hope you have an alternative cooking source like one or two thermal cookers so you can be prepared for the unexpected.

This Thermal cooker looks truly neat. I have never seen one. Not even at a camping expo or a home and garden show. I understand the physics as how it works. This will be on my wish list.

I have a pattern to make a thermal cooker. This one seems much easier to store and transport. Thank you for the review.

Hi Andi, I am so practical I wait until I can get the one I really want. I would rather do it right the first time. I have seen several ways you can make a thermal cooker but I would rather eat beans and rice for a couple weeks to get one item I really want. This is awesome for hot and cold foods. I wish every family could have one for emergencies but also to take dinner to a game or lessons. No take out ever. They could save so much money. Linda

Hi Zola, that’s a very good question. I might try it. Here’e the deal as you know about beans. The older the beans the longer it takes to cook them. A thermal cooker cooks like a slow cooker. Of course it would work great with “cans” of beans, onions and a ham hock. Let me try cooking some beans. Thanks for the idea. You rock! Linda
