Easy BBQ Chicken Recipe

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Do you love the smell of barbecued chicken as much as I do? This is a quick and easy BBQ chicken recipe because we generally have most of the ingredients at home. I usually keep a 12-pack of 7-Up on hand just for this recipe, and maybe an occasional Shirley Temple drink with two or three cherries! Add a little grenadine and life is good! My grandkids love these drinks so much!

I would highly recommend a 12-pack of 7-Up for your food storage stash! Of course, we would need to rotate it or the fizz would be gone!

Four Ingredients/Easy BBQ Chicken Recipe

How To Make A Quick And Easy Barbecued Chicken Recipe | by FoodStorageMoms.com

I have been making this recipe since I lived in Logan, Utah about 35 years ago. It was one of those recipes that the neighborhood shared with each other, so I am not sure where this recipe originated. It doesn’t work with diet soda or generic lemon-lime soda. It could be because 7-Up has more fizz, I don’t know. Regardless, I will not substitute the real stuff. I love this recipe because I can put it in the refrigerator and let it marinate for a day or two then barbecue it. You can add a salad with some fruit and dinner is ready in no time.

What does “part” mean in the recipe below, let me explain. One part can be 1 cup, so, therefore, this recipe would be 2 cups 7-Up with one cup of soy sauce and one cup of oil. It will depend on the amount of chicken used. The more chicken you use the more marinade you will need. You need enough to cover the chicken. I always use a 9 by 13-inch pan to marinate my chicken.

Freeze The Excess Barbecued Chicken

You can barbecue chicken or turkey pieces and freeze the excess in freezer bags to have them ready for future salads. Those bags of chicken are great to take to neighbors in need of dinner. Don’t forget to take along a bag of pre-made salad along with a jar of salad dressing for that dinner. Add some watermelon or other fresh fruit and they have a great dinner you “made” at the last minute for them. I use freezer bags like these: Ziploc Double Zipper Heavy Duty Quart Freezer Bags (216 Bags)

Cuisine: American
Servings: 6 people
Ingredients
  • 2 parts 7-UP or Sprite-Soda Pop
  • 1 part soy sauce
  • 1 part oil (I use olive oil)
  • raw uncooked chicken or turkey breasts (I start with frozen and set the pan in the refrigerator overnight in the marinade/covered with foil or plastic wrap)
Instructions
  1. I mix all the ingredients and pour the marinade over the chicken. Depending on how much chicken you are cooking, you will double or triple the recipe if needed. I like the chicken to marinade for about 12-24 hours completely covered. Barbecue the chicken. ****discard the marinade. Barbecue chicken until cooked as desired.

  2. Place all of the ingredients in order into your mixing bowl. Be careful with the eggs not to add the warm milk too slowly or you will have scrambled eggs. Add half of the flour and keep adding the rest of the flour until the bread dough pulls away from the sides of the mixing bowl. Cover with greased plastic wrap and let rise the first time, about an hour. Punch the dough down and mold into small balls about 1-1/2 inches to 2 inches in diameter. Cover with greased plastic and let rise one more time, about an hour, or until double the size. Remove the plastic wrap and bake at 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes on a greased cookie sheet. Do not overbake. They should be golden brown. I spread a little butter on the tops after baking so the rolls are soft on top. If you like a crispier top you can skip this step.

    1. Hi Patty, one part means like 2 cups 7-up, 1 cup soy sauce and 1 cup oil. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. It all depends on how much chicken you are using. I will add something to the post. Thank you!!!!! Linda

I use the same marinade but I add 1 T. of prepared horseradish and some garlic salt to it. I got it from an Aunt that lives in Manti. This is the marinade they use for the Manti Pageant Turkey BBQ. My very favorite!
