Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Well, it’s time to cook with more natural sweeteners in my home. I use honey, and I love it, but I also love the taste of Maple syrup. So I started thinking of 10 Ways To Use Maple Syrup. These are just a few to get you started with maple syrup. I would love to be able to go outside and let some maple drip from a tree, but for now, it’s purchased from Costco.

We all fix the usual pancakes and waffles which are the traditional ways to use maple syrup. Here are my favorites you might want to try if you haven’t already.

1. Oatmeal With Maple Syrup

I like to make my oatmeal in mason jars and stir in some maple syrup. If you missed my Oatmeal in mason jars here’s the post. This oatmeal cup has fresh cut unpeeled apples, pecans and lots of cinnamon with maple syrup. Yummy, and good for your heart.

2. Maple Syrup Glazed Carrots

I take a saucepan with a little water and steam some fresh carrots. After they are soft to taste, I add some butter and maple syrup to flavor the sweetness level I like. It makes a perfect side dish. I grew up with butter and brown sugar, but maple syrup with carrots this way is even better!

3. Maple Syrup Bacon

I love love love bacon. Well, the price of meat has gone up so much that we do not have the luxury to purchase bacon like we used to.  A local store here in Southern Utah sells bacon ends. They cost about $9.00 for four pounds. Yes, that is a lot of bacon. LOL! I really like the taste of maple bacon, or whatever it is called. So I decided I will try the cheap bacon (if you can call it cheap) and make my own maple bacon.

I spread the bacon out on a cookie sheet and drizzled with maple syrup. I baked the whole four pounds at 400 degrees for about an hour. I did drain the grease from the pan after 30 minutes and returned the pan to the oven to bake for another 30 minutes. Four pounds of bacon is a lot to eat at one meal so I froze meal-size portions in bags to eat later.

4. Barbecue Sauce

Make your own fresh barbecue sauce with ketchup, maple syrup, onion powder, dry mustard, apple cider, and your own favorite seasonings. It’s perfect for ribs, and cooking them in a slow cooker rocks! Save time and enjoy your day. I start with 2 cups of ketchup and start dumping it until it tastes the way I like it. Sometimes it’s sweeter or has less kick than I like, so I add more dry mustard.

5. Maple Sausage

I buy sausage on sale and freeze it. Well, my favorite is maple sausage, so if I can only buy plain sausage then  I add a little syrup after I fry them or bake them. Yummy!

6. Baked Sweet Potatoes

I love to take sweet potatoes and cut them into bite-size pieces and put them in a bag with a little water and olive oil. I then put them on a cookie sheet and bake them at 425  degrees for about 30-40 minutes, or until desired texture. I pull them out of the oven, place them onto a platter and drizzle with maple syrup with salt and pepper to taste. Yummy! Sometimes I add some Cayenne pepper for a little kick.

7. Vegetarian Dressing/Salad

Here is a simple maple vinaigrette dressing to drizzle over about 4 cups of lettuce with some mandarin oranges or grapefruit sections. I take 1/4 cup of maple syrup, 2 teaspoons of vanilla, 1/2 cup olive oil, and pine nuts are optional. Shake or stir the dressing and pour over the salad.

8. Maple Syrup Spiced Nuts

I shared my Easy To Make Spicy Nut Recipe with you. You can substitute maple syrup for the Agave sweetener. I swear that recipe is so easy and addicting. I have to put the jar in the pantry or I just eat a little every time I walk by the jar filled with those nuts.

9. Popcorn With Maple Syrup & Bacon

My family loves popcorn, I mean loves popcorn! You can add some of the cooked bacon (8-10 slices) above crumbled with about 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 2 tablespoons butter and stir into ten cups of popped popcorn. It sounds weird but it really is yummy!

 10. Maple Mustard-BBQ Chicken

If you have some Dijon mustard this is an easy way to grill some chicken. I take 1/3 cup maple syrup, 1/4 cup Dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons dry mustard, 1 tablespoon cider vinegar, and 2 teaspoons soy sauce. I combine the ingredients in a large bowl and add salt and pepper to taste. Place 3 pounds of chicken tenderloins in the sauce and refrigerate for 30 minutes minimum. Barbecue the marinated chicken until cooked the way you like it. Easy peasy, and you know the ingredients in the homemade marinade.

I shared my ten ways to use maple syrup if you have some others I would love to add them to this post.
