Try It Tuesday!

Kendra and I have a friend Marsha who called to see if we knew how to make our “Whole Wheat Bread” recipe in a bread machine. We have all probably had one of these machines and used them often to mix, knead and bake our bread at one time. Well, I had been up in Salt Lake City visiting my daughter Heidi who makes the most delicious white bread on earth I must say! Well, Heidi wondered if she could try making all whole wheat bread in her two bread machines that she uses weekly to make her bread. Heidi even experimented and has started using ground flax seed in place of some of the oil. Okay here is the recipe we came up….we basically split our own recipe into fourths I guess you could say. Remember the recipe Kendra and I use makes eight-1 pound loaves.

Bread Machine Whole Wheat Bread

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 Tbls. Olive Oil
  • 1/4 cup or so honey
  • 1/2 Tbls. dough enhancer
  • 1/2 Tbls. wheat gluten
  • 1/2 Tbls. salt
  • 1/2 Tbls. dry instant or powdered milk
  • 1/2 Tbls. SAF Instant Yeast
  • 1/2 Tbls. lemon juice
  • 3 1/2-4 cups whole wheat flour

Put the warm water in the “bread machine” then start adding all the ingredients. Mix in the bread machine for ten minutes or whatever your machine states. You are really mixing and kneading similar to a Bosch machine or by hand. NOTE* You do not bake your bread in the bread machine. You grease your pans and mold your loaves to fit your pans. Cover with a clean towel or greased plastic wrap. This recipe will make two-1 pound loaves. Let them rise and bake at 350 degrees for about 27 minutes. One pound pans are about 4″ by 8″.

I took these jars filled with some of the “stuff” we need to make bread to give to Marsha. My sister, Carol saw them and said I want to make some of those for wedding shower gifts! Here’s the deal Marsha has made bread for years but she wanted to see if she could do whole wheat bread in her machine. These little jars make it so easy to scoop out the 1/2 Tbls., etc. I just store mine in the refrigerator. The plastic containers I purchased from Bed Bath and Beyond. They have a 4 or 5 piece set at Costco with different sizes. Thanks to Marsha and Heidi for showing us we can make whole wheat bread in a bread machine! Gotta love it!
