20 Reasons Why You Need To Store Organic Chia Seeds

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I have 20 reasons why you need to store organic chia seeds in your food storage today. I first heard about organic chia seeds when I taught a few classes at Honeyville Grain up in Salt Lake City, Utah. Two employees, Lisa and Karen, introduced me to this superfood. I bought this bag, I think it weighed about 10 pounds, as I remember. It was a bit pricey, but before I left the store that day I looked up Chia on the internet. Oh, my goodness, where have I been? This is definitely a food storage item we should all store. Please make sure it is organic. I actually prefer this brand over any other brand because of where it is grown and harvested: Salba Smart Chia Seed

My daughter, Heidi, and I put chia seeds (we don’t care for the chia seed powder) in our drinking water every day. Yes, I carry around my water jug wherever I go. I have to laugh because one day I could see that some of the chia seeds had started sprouting in the lid. I had to get the tweezers to remove them.

Here’s the deal, you can add a tablespoon or more of organic chia seed to your pancake batter, muffin mix, salads, smoothies, or whenever you feel like adding some added nutrients to meals you prepare for your family.

Mare:

People think I’m crazy because I have gallons and gallons of chia seeds. They will last forever, as long as you keep them from getting damp. I use them in just about everything… sprinkled on salads, in homemade crackers and bread, in smoothies, to make quick jams, for quick puddings, and the list goes on and on.

Here’s a simple pudding recipe:

2 cups milk of choice (any animal, nut, or coconut milk will work)
1/2 cup chia seeds
1/2 Tsp flavoring extract of choice
2 Tbsp raw honey

Combine all ingredients. Mix well until it starts to thicken. Place in refrigerator for at least one hour.

Top with fresh or dried fruit, nuts, coconut, cacao nibs, or anything else you fancy.
Add a couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder before mixing for chocolate pudding.
For gelatin, replace milk with the fruit juice of your choice.
